Speak Truth to Power Canada
Defenders for Human Rights
Speak Truth to Power Canada (STTP Canada): Defenders for Human Rights is a new online teaching resource featuring the powerful stories of 12 Canadian human rights defenders. It introduces unique human rights lesson plans and includes a chronology of human rights, a short history of human rights and plain language versions of some of the main legal instruments involved in defining human rights.
STTP Canada encourages students to identify as human rights defenders. It also provides advice and direction for educators who teach human rights.
Developed in partnership between the Canadian Teachers’ Federation, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, and the Assembly of First Nations, STTP Canada is a Canadian adaptation of Speak Truth to Power, a project of USA-based Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights.
The Canadian defenders featured in STTP Canada will be highlighted internationally on the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights website.
