During the Second World War, Aristides de Sousa Mendes, a Portuguese Consul, defied his government and issued an estimated 30,000 visas and passports to those fleeing Nazi persecution, including thousands of Jews.

On January 27, 2022, to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, in partnership with the Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada and the Honorary Consulate of Portugal in Winnipeg, will be hosting a screening of the film Disobedience: the Sousa Mendes Story.

Join us and discover this important story of courage in the face of immense danger, and conviction in the principles of human rights that guide us today.
