News release details

"Gail's knowledge of the CMHR combined with her extensive senior management experience will be of great value to the CMHR as we transition to regular operations," said Eric Hughes, Chair of the Board of Trustees. "Gail's experience and leadership abilities are just two of the attributes that have made her well suited to this role."

Stephens joined the CMHR as Chief Operating Officer in June 2013. Prior to this role, she served as the City Manager for Victoria, B.C., CEO of BC Pension Corporation, and Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Winnipeg.

The Board of Trustees will soon launch an extensive search for a new President and CEO. This search will be international in scope and will likely take several months to complete.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is the first museum in the world solely dedicated to the evolution, celebration and future of human rights. Using multimedia technology and other innovative approaches, the CMHR will create inspiring encounters with human rights for all ages, in a visitor experience unlike any other.
