School program details

Students will learn about the role “othering” plays in the denial of dignity and rights. By examining three case studies – the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, the Holocaust and the Indigenous experience with colonization in Canada – students will recognize othering as a starting point for many human rights violations, including genocide.

Students will:

  • Learn about the role that othering plays in the development of genocide and how treating all humans with dignity and respect can ensure human rights include everyone.
  • Experience exhibits and the inspiring Museum architecture as if they were at the Museum in person.
  • Interact with a Museum guide and ask questions to better understand how they can take action for positive change.
  • Engage in discussion, critical thinking and reflection on their role in the protection of their own rights and the rights of others.
