The documentary entitled La Purge (The Purge) exposes a dark and little-known phenomenon in Canadian history: the systemic discrimination suffered by members of the LGBT community within the Canadian Armed Forces and the federal public service from 1950 to 1996. At the time, no effort was spared to flush out these men and women deemed immoral and, it was claimed, a danger to national security: extensive and coercive interrogations, humiliating tests, polygraphs, forced confessions and denunciations were their daily lot.
