This February, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is offering a special admission price of just $5 for all visitors.
Tickets can be purchased online or in‐person at the Box Office. The Museum will also continue its Free Friday Nights promotion, with free admission after 5 p.m. every Friday.
These special admission offers are accompanied by free public programs throughout February:
“The Arctic is Hot”: This evening, former Iqaluit mayor and renowned Inuk leader Madeleine Redfern will deliver the annual Paul Buteux Memorial Lecture on the impacts of climate change in the Arctic and the infrastructure improvements needed to mitigate its effects. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Free tickets are required and can be reserved here.
“Noir et Fier” panel discussion: What does it mean to navigate the world with more than one identity? On Friday, February 3, visitors are invited to “Métissages: Dual identities,” a panel discussion on the intersections of culture, language and identity. This French‐language event is part of the Noir et Fier (Black and Proud) series being hosted at the Museum by Réseau en immigration francophone du Manitoba and Accueil francophone as part of Black History Month. Night of Ideas (Nuit des idées): This annual event celebrating French culture returns the evening of Friday, February 3 to the Museum with the theme, “Plus, More, Better?” Hosted in partnership with Alliance Française du Manitoba, it will feature bilingual panel discussions on the connections between climate change and human rights. It will also include a performance by Winnipeg pop group Glassreel. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and preregistration is not required. More details are available here.
“Noir et Fier” maker market: Come and discover Black artisans and entrepreneurs at the Noir et Fier market on Friday, February 10 and Saturday, February 11. Explore a range of crafts and products from local makers and find a gift for someone special. The market will run from 5 to 8 p.m. on the 10th and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 11th.
Screening of Black Ice: On February 16, the Canadian Race Relations Foundation will host a screening of Black Ice, a film that examines the history of anti‐Black racism in Canadian hockey and the experiences of Black players today. The screening will begin at 7:00 p.m., followed by a moderated discussion. More details are available here.
Panel discussion on anti‐Black racism and mental health: The Afro‐Caribbean Mentorship Program and the University of Manitoba Black Alliance will host a panel discussion on February 22 to examine how anti‐Black racism contributes to mental health challenges and barriers to accessing appropriate care.
