The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced the appointment of John Fitzgerald Young as vice‐chair of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights' board of trustees for a four‐year term.

"I am delighted that Mr. Young has accepted the invitation to serve as vice‐chair of the board of trustees," said Minister Moore. "His previous service as a member of this board, along with his vast academic background, will continue to be of great benefit to the Museum."

Mr. Young was first appointed to the board of trustees of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights on May 31, 2012, for a four‐year term. His appointment fills the vacancy left by Mr. Eric Hughes, who was recently appointed chair of the board of trustees.

Mr. Young is currently the dean of the College of Arts, Social and Health Sciences at the University of Northern British Columbia and is Senior Fellow at the International Centre for Law and Religion Studies at Brigham Young University.

Located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights has the mandate to explore the subject of human rights—with special but not exclusive reference to Canada—in order to enhance the public's understanding of human rights, to promote respect for others, and to encourage reflection and dialogue.
