The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is planning a full day of activities for International Human Rights Day on December 10, 2014, with free admission and extended hours until 9 p.m. – the first time the Museum has opened to the general public in the evening.
"The Museum's exhibitions promote conversation and reflection about human rights every day," said Gail Stephens, interim President and CEO of the CMHR. "On International Human Rights Day, the Museum is pleased to offer free admission all day, with extended evening hours and special activities and events."
Events and activities taking place in the Museum on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 include:
- Annual Public Meeting from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Bonnie & John Buhler Hall)
- Announcement of a special new program that will begin in January 2015, developed in partnership with First Nations Elders
- A Canadian citizenship ceremony with Citizenship and Immigration Canada at 1:30 p.m., hosted by the Manitoba government (Bonnie & John Buhler Hall)
- Evening programming co‐presented by the Museum and the Assembly of First Nations Special Chiefs Assembly Host Committee
- Extended hours and free admission to all galleries (10 a.m. to 9 p.m.)
December 10 marks the first free day at the Museum since the opening weekend preview tours on September 20 and 21. Free evenings will be offered once a month beginning in the new year.
