With many Canadians seeking ways to champion human rights, the Friends of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is gearing up to amplify stories that demand attention, action and accountability at Gala 2025: Raising Our Voices.

The annual fundraising evening will feature prominent Canadian activist and human rights upstander Michelle Douglas, a survivor of Canada’s LGBT Purge and executive director of the LGBT Purge Fund.

Michelle’s legal victory shattered silence around the LGBT Purge – a government campaign of investigation, harassment and firing that targeted 2SLGBTQI+ Canadians. Her story is also featured in the Museum’s acclaimed Love in a Dangerous Time: Canada’s LGBT Purge exhibition, which guests will have a chance to explore at the gala.

“We are honoured to have Michelle join us for Gala 2025: Raising Our Voices,” says Mena Gainpaulsingh, CEO of Friends of the CMHR. “Her bravery reminds us that we all have the power to take action for human rights. Every action, no matter the size, helps us move toward a world where everyone’s human rights are respected and protected.”

Guests will enjoy a four‐course meal, a Distinctions tasting by Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries and a musical performance by three‐time JUNO Award nominee and Manitoba’s own Don Amero.

The sold‐out gala will offer a platform to turn awareness into action that challenges injustice, sparks conversations and pushes Canada closer to equality — it’s time to raise our voices.
