News release details
A new visitor experience developed by the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) has been chosen for a national collection that showcases the best of Canada to the world.
Destination Canada's "Canadian Signature Experiences" includes destinations, sights, activities and tours that are actively promoted to travellers around the world as once‐in‐a‐lifetime travel experiences found only in Canada. Six new additions to the collection – including the CMHR tour – were announced today.
Destination Canada (formerly the Canadian Tourism Commission) is a federal Crown corporation that promotes tourism in Canada.
The CMHR "Exploring a Canadian Landmark" half‐day experience begins with a guided tour through vibrant galleries full of human rights stories. A gourmet lunch is served in a beautiful location beneath the glass "cloud," where the conversation continues with the tour guide. The focus then shifts to the building's unique architecture and exotic rock faces, and guests take home pieces of the Museum itself (alabaster and basalt) in an elegant gift box.
"We are proud to be one of the unique travel experiences showcased by Canada's national tourism organization," CMHR president and CEO John Young said. "This designation will help build on our early success in attracting visitors to Winnipeg. Since opening in 2014, the Museum has welcomed more than one million visitors, with 65 per cent coming from outside Manitoba last summer, including 17 per cent from other countries."
The tour will become part of the menu promoted by international travel trade operators who book tourist visits to Canada. It is also be included under the "Things to Do" heading on Destination Canada's traveller Web pages. The new tour package is also available to local and Canadian visitors in groups of six to 24 by calling 204–289-2238 or emailing tours@humanrights.ca.
