News release details
This week, over 150 students, researchers and educators from Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada will gather at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights for the 4th annual Youth Nuclear Peace Summit. Co‐created by students and educators, the annual gathering empowers young leaders to lead critical discussions about the threats posed by nuclear weapons and the path to nuclear disarmament.
Youth will present research and facilitate workshops that explore these critical issues. They will also investigate the environmental impacts of uranium mining and waste management on Indigenous lands in Canada and the USA. Additionally, they will explore the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
As part of the summit, a free public panel discussion — Rethinking Global Justice and Peace — will be held at the Museum on Friday, November 8 at 6 p.m. The powerful panel of leaders in human rights activism will feature the Honourable Marilou McPhedran, Dr. John Guilfoyle, Dr. Ernest Thiessen and Rooj Ali.
