A showcase of vibrant dancing, drumming and fashion by diverse Asian‐Canadian performers will be held at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) tomorrow evening to mark the end of Asian Heritage Month.
Performers include Great Wall Performing Arts School; a fashion show of traditional Ao Dai costumes by the Charming Vietnamese Group; India School of Dance, Music & Theatre; Red Lotus dance group; a demonstration by K.S. Cho Taekwondo College; and Fubuki Daiko. The event includes participation by Indigenous peoples as a demonstration of respect and a connection to Canada.
Dauphin‐born actor Chelsey Mark, who is of Métis and Asian heritage and worked for many years in China, will act as emcee for the evening along with Alan Wong of the Asian Heritage Society of Manitoba.

CMHR President and CEO John Young will bring welcome greetings, followed by remarks from Lieutenant Governor Janice Filmon, MLA Andrew Smith on behalf of Manitoba Minister of Sport, Culture and Heritage Cathy Cox, and Manitoba NDP leader Wab Kinew. Anishinaabe Elder Peter Atkinson will open the performances with a song. Asian Heritage Society of Manitoba President Yenny Trinh will make closing remarks at the end of the evening.
The Government of Canada has designated May as Asian Heritage Month. In Manitoba, the Asian Heritage Society – consisting of representatives from the Filipino, Chinese, Indian, Indo‐Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Syrian and Vietnamese communities – plan activities to share Asian culture each May.
