Day of Your Visit

Making the most of your Museum visit.

A visit to the Museum is often a highlight in the student year. To help make your visit the best possible, we've prepared some tips for visiting day.

It is a bright winter day. A group of young adults are exiting a yellow school bus (right) and are walking toward the Museum entrance. Partially obscured.

Tips for Visiting Day

Bus Drop‐Off and Pick‐Up

Buses can drop students off in front of the Group Entrance at 85 Israel Asper Way.

Buses will need to park elsewhere while students are inside and may return to the drop‐off zone 15 minutes prior to scheduled program end time.

Arrival and Check‐In

Please arrive a minimum of 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start of your school program. This allows students enough time to remove outerwear, store belongings and use the washrooms. Upon arrival at the Group Entrance, you will be greeted by a Museum representative. If a payment upon arrival has been arranged, a Museum representative will assist you. We accept cheques, electronic fund transfers (EFTs) or credit cards. If you have pre‐paid, please check in with a Museum representative.

What to Wear

We recommend that students wear comfortable clothes and shoes. You might want to encourage students to bring a sweater or light jacket to wear in the Museum. It can sometimes feel a bit chilly due to strict temperature and humidity controls.

Running Late

In the event of inclement weather or other unexpected delays, please notify us as soon as possible at 204–289‑2253 or 204–289‑2000.

In case your school program cannot start at the scheduled time, your program may be shortened to finish on time.

Personal Belongings

Storage solutions for personal belongings (backpacks, coats and lunches) will be made available free of charge. Small lockers are available for teachers only. We ask students to leave valuable items at home or school. Accompanying adults are allowed to wear backpacks in the galleries as long as they are worn appropriately and safely and meet our size requirements that are designed to ensure visitor and exhibit safety. Please see our guidelines, for further information.

Special Requirements

The Museum is fully accessible. If you have any special requirements in addition to those identified at the time of booking, please contact us at least 24 hours in advance to help us accommodate your needs.

Cancellations

Please let us know as soon as possible and see our Cancellation Policy. When a school group visit is cancelled due to serious bad weather conditions, such as days when schools are closed or buses are cancelled, there will be no charge, but we ask that teachers notify us.

Respectful Conduct

Teachers and adult helpers are responsible for the behaviour of their group at all times. We ask that groups follow the instructions of guides and other Museum employees. Please see our Code of Conduct for additional information.

Food

If your group would like to have lunch at the Museum, please let us know in advance. We cannot guarantee that a space will be available. To request a lunch space, email us at school.programs@humanrights.ca or call us at 204–289‑2253. Please note that the Museum cannot provide tables, chairs, microwaves or utensils.

Lunches will need to be left with belongings in designated storage solutions.

Outside catering is not permitted.

Israel Asper Tower of Hope

The highest area of the Museum is the Israel Asper Tower of Hope, which offers panoramic views of Winnipeg.

The Tower is not included in your school program. However, you can bring your students up to the Tower after your program concludes. Your students must be with adult supervisors in the same ratios as in your program. Please consult the following link regarding Adult supervision

You and your students can access the Tower via elevator or stairs. Since capacity on the Tower is limited, for reasons of safety, we may be required to limit access at busy times.
