Making art can enhance mental health while allowing personal expression and creating joy.
On May 18, join Knowledge Keeper Marilyn Dykstra and Barb Fletcher, owner of Hidden Treasures Studio in Gimli, Manitoba, for a workshop that will meld human rights, mental health and art.
At the workshop, participants will make a fused glass design to take home and enjoy. And they will learn how art is medicine.
“Glass fusing” is the process of stacking two or more layers of glass together to make a design. Barb Fletcher will supply what’s needed: a base square piece of glass, and smaller pieces in different colours and shapes (all of it food safe). Participants can turn these into an image or design that speaks to their heart and spirit. Once the pieces are laid together, each glass creation is put into a kiln to fuse it all together.
No experience is needed for this activity, which is great for kids and adults alike.
