Join us for an inspiring evening with Dr. Dominique Corti, as she highlights the life journey of her mother and one of Canada’s first female surgeons, Dr. Lucille Teasdale Corti (1929–1996).

Guided by her commitment to provide medical care and humanitarian work even at times of intense political turmoil and violence, Dr. Lucille Teasdale Corti devoted her life to serving patients at St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor in northern Uganda.

Her story is revealed in the exhibit Canadian Doctors in the Field located in the Museum’s What Are Human Rights? gallery.

The evening includes the screening of the documentary A Life’s Journey (Un cammino per la vita), the true story of an extraordinary African hospital. Over the course of several decades, St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor faced adversities from extreme poverty to horrific wars and deadly epidemics. Dominique Corti, the daughter of the hospital’s founders, will share her memories of the devastations and triumphs the hospital faced.

After the film, Dr. Dominique Corti will lead a discussion on the topics raised in the documentary and the legacy of her mother’s work.

Members of the audience will have an opportunity to meet Dr. Dominique Corti at the end of the evening.
