Shelly Whitman Ph. D. (she/her) has served for over a decade as the Executive Director of The Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She leads an international team based in Canada, Rwanda, Mozambique, Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan and Uruguay. Dr. Whitman has been instrumental in creating and collaborating on a number of key international agreements and policies on the protection of children. In 2023, she was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for Meritorious Service to Children and Veterans.
