The future of Holocaust memory: 75 years after the liberation of Auschwitz‐Birkenau

Join Richard Lowy as he shares first‐hand the story of his father Leo, a Holocaust survivor.

During the Second World War, Leo and his twin sister Miriam greatly suffered at the hands of Josef Mengele, who performed inhumane medical experiments on Jewish and Roma twins in Auschwitz. 

Richard’s presentation will be followed by the 60‐minute documentary Leo’s Journey, which recounts this story and is narrated by Christopher Plummer. 

The Winnipeg Youth Chorus will perform selected movements from I Believe, an oratorio for humanity composed by Winnipeg‐based Zane Zalis. 

The Museum is proud to partner with the Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada and Freeman Family Foundation Holocaust Education Centre in presenting this event to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Hana’s suitcase 

Explore this family‐friendly activity that brings to life the story of Hana Brady, a young Jewish girl from Prague. At age 13, Hana lost her life in the Auschwitz concentration camp during the Holocaust. Read Karen Levine’s book Hana’s Suitcase. Play with a collection of familiar and beloved objects reminding us of family and home.

I Believe with Winnipeg Youth Chorus
