Experience an immersive soundscape that is part of the 2020 Winnipeg New Music Festival. The Museum is proud to offer the tranquility and unique acoustics of its Stuart Clark Garden of Contemplation as a public space for this important annual festival.

About the installation:

In Sonic Trails: the Prairies, the sound of environments from locations around Winnipeg are used to produce immersive soundscapes. Sophisticated computer algorithms determine how the sound‐paintings evolve. There is no predetermined sequence – every moment is unique.

About the creator:

Örjan Sandred is a composer of both instrumental and computer music. His instrumental works range from scores for symphony orchestra to music for solo instruments. Sandred is a professor of composition at the University of Manitoba, where he founded Studio FLAT for computer music research and production.
