For thousands of years, Inuit in Canada’s Arctic region have depended on seal hunting for survival. Today, seal hunting, although controversial, is still very important to Inuit communities. Closely tied to traditional knowledge about ways of life on the land, the economy and food security, the practice of seal hunting is crucial for sustainable communities in the North.
