From December 2015 to June 2016, the Museum hosted Newman’s art installation, The Witness Blanket, which was created from hundreds of items reclaimed from residential schools, churches, government buildings and traditional and cultural structures from across Canada. The Witness Blanket stands as a national monument to recognize the atrocities of the Indian residential school system, honour the children affected, and symbolize ongoing reconciliation efforts.
Ever since the Museum hosted this powerful art installation, we have been exploring ways to continue the conversation around this project.
Don’t miss the screening of this 90‐minute film Picking Up the Pieces: The Making of the Witness Blanket. After the film, join us for a conversation with artist Carey Newman and film co‐director Cody Graham.
Free event; free ticket required. Get your ticket online, by phone at 204–289‑2000, or by visiting the main ticketing desk.
