Join us for a high‐energy concert by award‐winning hip‐hop artist, emcee and Netflix original docuseries host Shad Kabango (better known as Shad or Shad K). This show is presented by Black History Manitoba and Manitoba Music, as part of the Beyond the Beat Music Series and in recognition of Emancipation Day.

As one of Canada’s most revered rappers, Shad is a peerless wordsmith who embodies hip-hop’s power to entertain and educate. Since releasing his debut album When This Is Over in 2005, the Toronto‐based emcee has pushed his style of socially conscious yet infectiously playful hip‐hop across seven albums and three EPs that have garnered widespread critical acclaim and coverage in media sources such as Rolling Stone, Complex, The Ringer, Fader, NPR, and more. To date, he has received over 30‐million streams, a Juno award for Rap Recording of the Year for TSOL (released in 2010) and four placements on Canada’s prestigious Polaris Music Prize shortlist, including his 2018 concept‐album opus, A Short Story About a War. A former host of CBC Radio One’s flagship arts and culture program Q, he currently hosts the Emmy and Peabody award‐winning Netflix documentary series, Hip‐Hop Evolution.
